🐟 Types of Fish: What’s Biting on Norfork Lake?

Norfork Lake isn’t just a fishing hole; it’s a world-class fishery. Thanks to our exceptionally clear water and the diverse underwater habitat of the Ozarks, Norfork is home to an incredible array of game fish. Whether you’re looking for a limit of tasty Crappie or the fight of a lifetime with a 40-pound Striper, you’ll find it here.

The Big Four: Norfork’s Most Popular Catches

While there are dozens of species in the lake, these four are the primary targets for most anglers:

#1 Striped Bass

The undisputed "Kings of the Lake."

Norfork is famous for its massive Stripers. These open-water predators are hard-hitting and known for long, powerful runs. It is common to see fish in the 20 to 30-pound range, with true monsters exceeding 40 pounds caught every year.

#2 Walleye

The "Walleye Capital of the South.

Norfork is one of the premier Walleye lakes in the region. These fish are highly prized for their delicious white meat and can be caught year-round. In fact, the previous Arkansas State Record Walleye (19 lbs, 12 oz) was pulled from Norfork’s waters!

#3 Black Bass

(Largemouth, Smallmouth, & Spotted)

Whether you prefer the aggressive hit of a Largemouth in the brush or the acrobatic fight of a "Brownie" (Smallmouth) on a rocky ledge, Norfork delivers. The clear water makes for excellent sight-fishing during the spring.

#4 Crappie

The family favorite.

Norfork has an abundant population of both Black and White Crappie. They are the perfect target for a relaxed day of fishing and make for an incredible fish fry at the end of the day.

🎣 Angler’s Note: Know the Rules

To keep our fishery healthy, please be aware of all size and creel limits.

  • Check the AGFC Regulations: Make sure you have a valid Arkansas Fishing License.

  • Border Lakes License: If you are fishing near the Missouri state line, ensure you have the correct permit or “Border Lakes” stamp.

  • Catch and Release: We encourage catch-and-release, especially for our larger trophy Stripers, to ensure the next generation of anglers can enjoy the thrill!
