While Norfork Lake is the star of the show, the roads surrounding it are a destination in their own right. From high-altitude ridge runs to winding riverside byways, these drives are a must for anyone visiting during the vibrant spring bloom or the fiery fall foliage season.

Best Season is Fall: The “canopy” of trees over the road turns into a tunnel of brilliant gold and orange.
Spring: Look for the white and pink “snow” of Dogwood trees lining the steeper ravines.
The Vibe: Rugged limestone bluffs and rushing water.
What to See: Starting in the historic town of Calico Rock, this route follows the White River before climbing into the mountains toward Blanchard Springs Caverns. You’ll see dramatic rock formations and sweeping views of the river valley below.
Best Season is Spring: This area is famous for its early-season Redbuds, which paint the hillsides in a vibrant purple-pink hue.
The Vibe: Engineering marvels meets deep-water vistas.
What to See: This short but iconic loop takes you directly across the top of the Norfork Dam. On one side, you have the sprawling lake; on the other, a 200-foot drop to the trout-filled waters of the North Fork River.
Pro Tip: Stop at the Quarry Marina overlook for a panoramic view of the dam’s massive spillway gates.
The Vibe: Massive scale and blue-water horizons.
What to See: Sometimes the best view is on the main road! Crossing the Henderson and 101 Bridges at sunset is an unforgettable experience. You are suspended hundreds of feet above the deepest part of the lake, with miles of shoreline visible in every direction.
Use the Pull-offs: Many of these highways have designated “scenic overlooks.” Use them! Don’t try to take photos while driving these winding roads.
